1 ) Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
2 ) And he had two wives, the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
1 ) എഫ്രയീം മലനാട്ടിലെ രാമാഥയീം-സോഫീമിൽ എൽക്കാനാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു പുരുഷൻ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു, അവൻ എലീഹൂവിന്റെ മകനായ യെരോഹാമിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു, എലീഹൂ എഫ്രയീമ്യനായ സൂഫിന്റെ മകനായ തോഹൂവിന്റെ മകൻ ആയിരുന്നു.
2 ) എൽക്കാനെക്കു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു, ഒരുത്തിക്കു ഹന്നാ എന്നും മറ്റേവൾക്കു പെനിന്നാ എന്നും പേർ, പെനിന്നെക്കു മക്കൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു, ഹന്നെക്കോ മക്കൾ ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.
