From Youth Chaplain’s Desk

My Dear Ascension Mar Thoma Church Family,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!!!

As we step into a new year, let us pause—intentionally and prayerfully—to remember the words of the prophet Samuel: “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” (1 Samuel 7:12)

These words were spoken at a turning point in Israel’s story. Looking back on years marked by struggle, repentance, and renewal, Samuel set up a stone of remembrance—an Ebenezer—to testify that it was the Lord who had carried them through. It was not a declaration of self-confidence, but a humble acknowledgment of divine faithfulness.

As we enter this new season, those words resonate deeply with us as a parish community. The past months and years have held moments of joy and growth, as well as times of uncertainty and waiting. Yet through it all, God has remained faithful. Many of us can look back and say with conviction: “We are here today only because the Lord has helped us.”

This season also marks an important transition in my own journey of ministry. As many of you know, I am now in the final phase of my youth chaplaincy ministry here in Philadelphia, with this chapter coming to a close in April 2026, after which we will be returning to India. This is not simply an ending, but a sacred season of preparation—one filled with gratitude for what has been, and prayerful anticipation for what lies ahead.

Serving this community—especially our youth, and young families—has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Together, we have worshiped, wrestled with faith, asked difficult questions, grown through challenges, and celebrated moments of grace. The relationships formed, the conversations shared, and the spiritual journeys walked together will remain deeply cherished.

As we move forward, I earnestly encourage our youth to continue staying connected—through youth fellowship gatherings and all other activities of the church. Your presence, questions, energy, and sincerity are vital to the life of the Church. Likewise, I warmly encourage our young families to remain engaged in the life of the JAN-MAR 5 parish and in the Youth Families Fellowship. Amidst busy schedules, professional demands, and family responsibilities, your participation becomes a powerful witness to faith lived out in everyday life.

As we step into this new year, may we do so with gratitude for the past, faith for the present, and hope for the future. Let us continue to build upon the foundation God has already laid among us—trusting that the One who has led us thus far will continue to guide our steps ahead.

“The Lord has been our help—and He will be our guide.”

May this new year be filled with renewed faith, deeper fellowship, and a steadfast trust in the God who walks with us always.

A humble servant in the Lord’s Ministry,

Jeff Achen
